A gloriously pessimistic friend of mine once responded to the old "think positively" advice by saying, "I'm positive that I can't possibly think any more positively."

And I love that about my friend, but I don't think it's very much fun for him. My feeling is, the worst thing that can happen when you think positively is that you'll perceive things as being better than they are.
